Sep 07, 2016

GARLAND are providing Project Supervisor Design Process (PSDP) services for the €20m phased apron rehabilitation project at Dublin Airport. The aim is to replace existing apron pavements before they become a business interruption or a health and safety risk. The project involves the replacement of circa 84,000m2 of existing aprons on the were at or near the limit of their serviceable life and recommendation of a rehabilitation strategy.   The works involved the protection, replacement, upgrade and new installation of utilities, including drainage and airfield lightening services, which are located extensively within the Apron.  The first years works where compelted during he winter of 2015/2016.  The next years works will take place duriing winter 2016/2017.  The project is forecast to be completed by 2019.

The Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) has commissioned this project as part of a bigger scheme to modernise the airport which has on average 60,000 passenger and more than 600 aircraft every day.

Airfield aprons and taxi lanes are crucial elements to the airfield’s network. The aprons provide the facilities for aircrafts to manoeuvre, park and be service. Currently many of the aprons at Dublin airport are over 40 years old, requiring maintenance and upgrading.

As the works are being carried out on live aprons, this poses specific health and safety risks that need to be controlled by complying with health, safety, security and environment (HSSE) regulations, specialist training and work permits. However it is not just the day to day running of the airport that poses potential risks, other live projects will also be taking place during this time.
